Vacation Bible School – June 23-27, 2008
Amazon Expedition

It was a jungle out there, and we headed right for it!

VBS 02
Heather Hills Baptist Church gathered up its gear, laced up its hiking books and went on a journey through the amazing Amazon rainforest. We embarked on Answer's in Genesis' Amazon Expedition: The Ultimate Trek Through Time. There were classes provided for all children Kindergarten through 6th grade. God blessed Heather Hills Baptist Church with a daily average of 146 students.

During our 5 day expedition, we explored the 7 C's of history. The 7 C's of history are seven biblical events that have affected, or will affect, the world.

  • Creation reveals that God created a "very good" universe in six normal-length days.
  • Corruption shows that Adam's disobedience brought death, sickness, and sorrow into the world, thus leading to the need for a Redeemer.
  • The Catastrophe was the global Flood of Noah's day by which God judged the wickedness of man.
  • The Confusion at Babel came when God confused the language of Noah's descendants, causing them to spread out and fill the earth.
  • Christ came to redeem the world from sin by dying on the Cross and paying the death penalty for those who receive Him. As Christians, we look forward to the Consummation of all things in the future, when the Curse will be removed and God prepares a new heavens and the new earth for His children.

VBS 03
All children were encouraged to bring a daily offering. The money was collected for the MOM House Diaper Drive (a ministry of Heather Hills Baptist Church). The 5 day offering totaled $295.16, which was used to purchase 2,460 diapers. A high light to this years opening assembly was the daily presentation of the actual diapers that were purchased. By the end of the week, all 2,460 diapers were piled high on the stage for all the children to see.

VBS 07
Throughout the week, the children learned the redemptive story of salvation that God had planned since the beginning of creation. The gospel was presented several times during the week and teachers were able to speak one on one with children about salvation. It is uncertain if any child became part of God's family during the VBS week; however, that is the Holy Spirit's responsibility. All glory and honor continues to be given to our wonderful Savior, Jesus Christ and may His fame be spread all through our community.
